FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is your blog called Pink Cast Diaries? What was the inspiration?
In August of 2012, I was attending team meetings in St Louis, MO. Our evening team-building event was a bowling outing … during one of my turns to throw the ball … I put a little too much of myself into the throw and tumbled down the alley. As a result, I broke my right wrist. The fix? A cast from my shoulder to my fingertips. The big decision? What color cast would I like? I had an array of options. After consulting with both the ER tech and my wise and wonderful friends - the answer: PINK!Why pink? Some said it would help for others to take notice and offer assistance. I thought it was a happy color that would remind me to not take the situation too seriously and have a little fun with this twist in the road, which is exactly what it did!
The six weeks grounded in my pink cast grounded me … literally and figuratively.
- Literally: It showed me there is indeed another way to work, and that my travel schedule could be amended. I found the time "grounded" in my office allowed me to be present and focus in a way I had not been working.
- Figuratively: When operating with one, not so handy left hand, I found my way of navigating the world had to be so much more intentional and focused. It slowed me down and taught me to redirect my focus.
What did you learn most during those six weeks?
Living with a more present
mindset had me embrace every day challenges with a new excitement. Every
day, there was a new learning – insight – challenge … each and every one I took
on with a sense of joy and excitement. I have always been fueled by
learning and discovery and have always believed that there is a learning in
everything.
